The Paradox of Gospel Peace part one – Matthew 10
September 8, 2011 Gary BowlesMany a new Christian has come into the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ with a misconception that everything will be peaches and cream after making the decision to follow Jesus. There seems to be a school of thought that all conflict will be resolved and nary a cloudy day will follow.
We find however, that conflict can and sometimes does come into the lives of believers. How can conflict and calamity come from the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6)? Jesus himself laid it out plainly in Matthew ten.
Matthew 10:32-38
“Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven. “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn “‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law–a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’ “Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.
What is perhaps most troubling for the new believer is when the trouble comes from within our own household…
What do we do when this is our case?
Stay tuned!
