Moving On Up!
May 13, 2010 Gary BowlesAfter spending that past couple of weeks in the cellar of the National League West, the Dodgers now find themselves in 3rd place in the division. Having won 9 of the last 12 to improve to .500 at 17-17 they are only 4.5 games behind the division leading Padres.
Led by the hottest hitter in baseball, Andre Eithier who is hitting a scintillating .385, with 11 Home Runs and 37 RBI, the rest of the team is beginning to swing the bat better as well.
Future Hall of Famer*, Manny Ramirez who has been bothered by injury came off the bench in Wednesday’s win over the Dbacks to blast a 3 run scoring double off the center field wall. The irony of Ramirez’ hit is that the Dbacks chose to intentionally walk the hot hitting Either to load the bases and face Ramirez. Tough situation no matter how you look at it for an opposing manager. Face Ethier who had homered earlier or be forced to pitch to Ramirez who is second all time in Grand Slams. The Dbacks chose the latter and it burned them.
While this latest spate of good play is inspiring the Dodgers still find themselves in third place. As I said last week, it is a loooong season and the race is not won in April and May…You certainly can’t win it in the early months but you can put yourself so far behind that you can lose it…
