Crossing YOUR Jordan River

October 12, 2011 Gary Bowles

Over the course of a lifetime we will be faced with several “Crossing Jordan” type situations. What is a Crossing Jordan type situation? Well I’m glad you asked. A Crossing Jordan situation is pretty much a crossroads type dilemma whereby God is leading us in a particular direction. It is usually a direction that is clearly God led, but because of fear we seem to think that it might not be from God.

Case in point is the children of Israel’s need to Cross the Jordan River and go in to possess the Promised Land. God had brought them out of bondage in Egypt, led them for forty years through their wilderness wanderings and right to the edge of the Promised Land. There they stood on one side of the Jordan River looking at the Land that God had “promised” to their father Abraham.

Having been led by God to this very moment in time, they now stood just a river crossing away. What they now found within themselves was a fear that they had not known before. What if the people there are too great for us to conquer? What if God is not really with us? What if, what if, what if?  Many of us can identify with this type of fear. Is this the job that God is really leading me to? Is this really the man or woman that God has placed in my life for me to marry? Is this really the house that God wants us to buy? The list of crossings is usually long and exhaustive.

There is a saying that the Spirit of God will never lead you to a place where the Grace of God and Strength of God will not protect and keep you. Stay in the Word of God and His direction will be clearer and clearer. Fear will subside and you will know exactly when He is leading you in a particular direction.

Know this,  much like was the case with the children of Israel in their situation, the people on the other side were much more afraid of them then they could have imagined. The Lord will make a way…

Til next time,

Gary B.
